The Carbon Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology was established in 2012, relying on the School of Materials Science and Engineering and the State Key Laboratory of Materials Processing and Die & Mold Technology. Currently, there are 6 fixed  researchers, more than 40 master, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers.

Focusing on the fields of new carbon-based materials and their energy applications, a series of influential results have been achieved in the structural performance regulation, energy storage and conversion of metal-doped carbon molecules and their assembly. Representative results have been selected as the 'Focus Papers' of the American Chemical Society and the Royal Society's 'Hot Topic Papers'. More than 200 papers have been published in internationally renowned journals such as Nat. Comm., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. and Adv. Mater., editor of 4 monographs, and invited to write more than 20 reviews.
